The board of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Angus Porter as its new CEO. This news follows an exhaustive process conducted by the PCA board, assisted by the sports division of specialist head-hunters, Odgers Berndtson.
Angus Porter comes from a business background, having held senior positions at British Telecom, latterly as Managing Director of its consumer division and, more recently, at Abbey National and Thomas Cook. He has also held non-executive positions for several major quoted businesses, including MyTravel and Alliance & Leicester.
Angus is being introduced to the ECB today and starts his new role at the PCA next Monday, March 8th.
Commenting on the appointment:
Vikram Solanki, Chairman and Acting CEO of the PCA, said "I am delighted that Angus is joining us and that his passion for the game will help the PCA navigate the multiple cricket issues we are facing. With the 2010 domestic season starting in April the timing of Angus's arrival is perfect."
Anthony Wreford, Chairman of the PCA board, said "We are delighted that Angus has decided to join the PCA. He brings proven business skills to the PCA which are critical given the PCA's commercial activities.
The PCA is particularly grateful to Vikram Solanki for stepping in as acting CEO during the winter months, a task he performed incredibly well."
Angus Porter said "This is a dream role. The opportunity to apply my business experience to a sport I love is a chance not to be missed. I look forward to the many challenges ahead and to building strong relationships in the game."
