PCA Confidential Helpline Fact Sheet

When was the Helpline set up? July 2005


Why was the Helpline set up?

To provide confidential support 24 hours a day, where necessary, for professional cricketers past or present, to help them with everyday issues/problems and to ensure that a PCA member or his family, has the comfort of knowing that there will always be someone to talk to should the need arise.


Who can call the Helpline?

Professional cricketers past or present and/or their wives, children and immediate family.


Can a specialist come and see you?

In some cases that is possible, depending on your location and urgency.

What might be a typical reason for calling the Helpline?

  • Coping with bereavement or illness
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Addictions - dependency on alcohol or drugs
  • Personal relationship issues
  • Gambling related issues.

Can it help for sports psychology related problems and technical problems within the sport?

It is not specifically set up for these types of issues. Many sports teams/individuals use sports psychologists for these areas and as such a specialist should be sought.


What should you do if in doubt?

Never be worried about calling the helpline; the specialists will be able to guide you in the right direction.
