Trescothick Extends MVP Lead After Brace Of Centuries
How England must wish they could call on the services of Marcus Trescothick, who this week scored a brace of championship (LV=CC) centuries against Warwickshire, which has helped him jump 48 points clear at the top of the overall MVP. The former England opener, who played such a significant role in the regaining of the Ashes in 2005, has now notched six LV=CC centuries in addition to four scores in the nineties taking his tally for the longest form to 1330. Across all cricket he has scored a whopping 2113 runs.
Ian Blackwell remains in second spot overall after another heavy-scoring week, this time in the Pro40, where he is also ranked second. Blackwell scored 36 off 24 balls and took 3-11 with his left-arm spin against Worcestershire. The former England one-day player has scored 96 runs in three pro40 matches at a strike rate of 1.48 and has seven wickets. Across all forms he has scored 1027 runs and taken 43 wickets.
The prolific Michael Carberry is third having racked up three hundreds and a double hundred in his last four LV=CC matches. Carberry scored 136 against Lancashire this week to take him past the 1000-run mark in the championship in style. He has 1810 runs across all forms, 1072 of which have come in the LV=CC where he is ranked second.
Sussex captain Mike Yardy is fourth but failed to make much ground on the top three after a quiet week. He led Sussex to victory in the pro40 over Gloucestershire but did not get to the crease as his top order took care of the run chase to win by nine wickets. In the championship a brace of 20s and another draw was not what he would have ordered but he has taken his run tally across all cricket to 1251 in addition to 24 wickets.
Craig Kieswetter recorded two single-figure scores in Somerset's LV=CC match with Warwickshire but was in the thick of the action in the Pro40 against Yorkshire with 37 from 43 balls having earlier completed two stumpings. The gloveman has now scored 1377 runs, taken 44 catches and snared 8 stumpings across all forms, all of which sees him in fifth spot overall.
Sean Ervine has moved quietly into the chasing pack after solid contributions across all competitions. Earlier in the week he made 41 off 35 balls as the Hawks beat Yorkshire Carnegie in the Pro40, before striking his second championship century of the season against Lancashire at the Rose Bowl. Ervine has scored 1122 runs and taken 30 wickets in all cricket.
Gloucestershire stalwart Jon Lewis is in seventh spot after adding to his wicket tally this week in the win over Essex at Southend. Lewis snared two wickets in each innings taking his haul in the championship to 41; across all cricket he has 68 scalps as well as 494 runs.
Jonathan Trott, called up to the England squad for the Headingley Test before being released back to Warwickshire, demonstrated why many believe him to be the next batting cab off the rank with 73 off 71 balls in the Bears Pro40 victory over Leicestershire, where he also chipped in with a couple of wickets. The leading run-scorer in the T20 cup (525 runs), Trott is ranked top in the T20 MVP and eighth overall having scored 1665 runs across all forms.
Ed Joyce has had an impressive week which sees him move into the top ten for the first time. Against Notts at Horsham the Sussex batsman scored 183, which was 59 per cent of his team's total of 309. He then made 66 not out in the victory over the Gladiators in the Pro40 his second fifty in three games. Joyce, who won the Friends Provident Trophy MVP earlier in the summer, has scored 1583 runs across all forms.
Jamie Dalrymple stays in the top ten having led Glamorgan to their first victory in the LV=CC this season. Dalrymple scored 40 and took four wickets in the match as Glamorgan ran out winners by an innings and 72 runs over Leicestershire at Colwyn Bay. He has 1304 runs and 25 wickets to show for a fine summer's work to date.
