Somerset Duo Head MVP Table
Somerset duo Zander de Bruyn and Craig Kieswetter head the overall MVP but Sussex captain Mike Yardy is the big mover after the latest round of Championship action. De Bruyn has enjoyed a fantastic one-day season to date - he leads the FPT MVP and is ranked fourth in the T20 MVP - and he demonstrated his match-winning capability in the longer form with 70 not out as Somerset chased down 296 to beat Yorkshire at Headingley. De Bruyn has now scored 867 runs in addition to 16 wickets across all forms. Incredibly for a man who has gone past fifty 11 times he is yet to score a hundred in this year's campaign.
Kieswetter, in contrast to his county colleague, has converted fifties into hundreds on a regular basis. He has scored 952 runs across all cricket including four hundreds and three fifties, his latest contribution 83 and 25 in the Yorkshire match. The Sabres keeper, who opens the batting in one-day cricket, a key factor in Somerset's strong showing in the shorter forms, is just two points behind de Bruyn.
Yardy has proved a real lead-from-the-front captain for Sussex and shown there is life after Chris Adams down on the south coast. After a string of clever one-day performances from the middle-order, Yardy returned to the top of the line-up for the Championship notching back-to-back hundreds against Yorkshire and Worcestershire. Yardy has scored 827 runs and taken 15 wickets across all cricket, which sees him third in the overall MVP.
Steven Davies, another keeper who likes to give the ball a healthy thump at the top of the order in one-day cricket (Adam Gilchrist has a lot to answer to for), is in fourth spot. Five fifties in the shorter forms together with an important hundred against Nottinghamshire in the LVCC, has seen him rack up 769 runs alongside 18 catches and 10 stumpings. This week he managed 15 and 35 as Worcester went down to Sussex at New Road.
Lancashire captain and evergreen all-rounder Glen Chapple is up to fifth in the overall MVP after adding taking another four wickets to his tally against Durham this week. Chapple has scored 213 runs and taken 36 wickets across all forms but it's his form in the LVCC where he's ranked second that has been largely responsible for Lancashire's third place in the division one table. Chapple has scored two fifties and his best bowling return came early last month against Worcestershire when he took 6-34.
Jamie Dalrymple is another fledgling captain demonstrating that the responsibility of the role sits comfortably on his shoulders. Dalrymple's 128 against Derbyshire this week, his third hundred of the season, represented over 40% of Glamorgan's total score earning him 27 points. He has scored just under a quarter of Glamorgan's runs in the both the LVCC and the T20. Across all forms he has contributed an impressive 923 runs and taken 15 wickets, which sees him occupy sixth spot.
It was a quiet week for Peter Trego in the LVCC but his one-day performances have been a feature of this year's MVP. The Somerset all-rounder is in seventh spot having scored 402 runs and taken 30 wickets. He is ranked third in the FPT MVP and 13th in the T20 MVP.
Marcus Trescothick's second innings 78 laid the foundations for Somerset's successful pursuit of 296 against Yorkshire. It was Trescothick's fourth fifty of the campaign to go with his 105 against Durham back in April and he has also scored four fifties and a hundred in the FPT, where he is ranked fourth. Overall Trescothick lies eighth having scored 1089 runs across all forms.
Chris Schofield's 5-40 to bowl Surrey to victory against Northants maintains his MVP momentum created by fine performances in the shorter forms. The leg-spinner is ranked second in the FPT MVP and has now taken 40 wickets across all forms in addition to scoring 260 runs. H's in ninth spot in the overall MVP fractionally ahead of Hampshire's Sean Ervine who makes up the top ten.
