PCA Masters XI v The Netherlands
Friday 29th May 2009, The Sir Paul Getty Ground, Wormsley
In the second ICC World Twenty20 games involving the Masters, they took on The Netherlands, again at the outstanding Sir Paul Getty Ground. In a 12-a-side game, the Masters welcomed two guests to their side - Stijn Allema from The Netherlands and Alex Cusack from Ireland. Winning the toss, the Masters XI chose to bat second and chase what was sure to be a competitive total.
The Dutch openers, Kervezee and Reekers took to the Masters attack and struck an opening partnership of 69 within 9 overs; the Masters were also hampered by an injury to opening bowler Martin Bicknell who had to retire from the field after bowling only three balls. The Masters attack fought back well and restricted the Dutch to 167-5 from their 20 overs with key bowling returns coming from Mark Alleyne (1-12 from 2 overs) and Devon Malcolm (1-26 from 3 overs).
The Masters XI showed great promise in overcoming this total with key contributions from Nadeem Shahid (29), Jason Gallian (30) and Essex youngster Adam Wheater with 44 from 34 balls. But the Dutch kept taking regular wickets with Seelers (2-28) and van Bunge (2-37) leading the way.
The Masters XI eventually ran out of overs with their score on 163 for 7 with late contributions from the aptly named Keith Dutch (16*) and Rob Turner (23*), thus giving the Netherlands both valuable practice and a win by the narrow margin of 4 runs.
