Kieswetter Top Of Overall MVP Table
Somerset are dominating the county MVP with Craig Kieswetter leading the overall MVP and Zander de Bruyn top of the FPT MVP. The Sabres, who currently have four of the top five in the FPT MVP bowed out to Sussex at the quarter-final stage but not before Kieswetter cracked his second hundred of the competition (his fourth from all cricket) and De Bruyn added 96 to his four other scores in the 70s.
Kieswetter has scored 708 runs across all cricket and is ranked fifth in the FPT MVP, while De Bruyn has 518 runs from all forms and is ranked ninth overall. Their county colleagues Marcus Trescothick and Peter Trego are third and fourth in the FPT MVP respectively, while Chris Schofield slips a place to second.
In contrast to last year's FPT MVP, which saw the top places dominated by players from the final four teams, only two of the top ten, are left in the FPT and Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel (ninth) is still at the quarter-final stage with the mighty Gladiators to get past.
At this point in time it's hard to pick a winner but Lancs duo Tom Smith (tenth) and Francois du Plessis (twelfth) might be the favourites for the FPT title despite the latter being 25 points off the pace. The South African has been a major force behind Lancashire's progression to the semi-finals smashing two quick-fire hundreds at well over a run-a-ball. His knock against FPT holders Essex in the quarters was the quickest hundred of the season so far and totally transformed the match. His innings of 113 was over 43% of the Lancashire total and scored at a strike rate of 1.51, which gave him a haul from the game of over 30 points.
Smith, meanwhile has been consistent with both bat and ball. He has scored 281 runs including three fifties, and taken 11 wickets at an economy rate of under 5.
