Shah Climbs England MVP - 25/11/2008

Owais Shah is the biggest mover in the ODI MVP after scoring more than 40% of England's runs in the rain-reduced fourth one-day international from Bangalore. Shah's innings of 72 from 48 balls, which also earns bonus points for strike rate, sees him leapfrog his captain Kevin Pietersen into third spot, whilst he also becomes England's leading run-scorer in ODIs since the beginning of our domestic summer. Shah has 447 runs to Pietersen's 382. Ian Bell is just behind with 378 runs after 11 double figure scores from 13 knocks.

Pietersen will be pleased his team are showing signs of steady improvement, despite the 4-0 score-line, but will know hundreds are the order of the day on flat Indian pitches. Pietersen has been the only England player to register the magical three figures in this year's MVP campaign and that was in the first game of the summer against New Zealand at the Riverside. Pietersen scored three Test hundreds and across all cricket is England's leading run-scorer with 1031 runs. He is ranked second in the overall MVP.

England's captain will be also be delighted with the all-round contribution of Andrew Flintoff. The big man has gone from strength to strength in India bowling as economically as ever and producing useful cameos with the bat. Flintoff added 82 in 8 overs in alliance with Owais Shah in Bangalore to haul England back into contention in their run chase.  His 41 from 30 balls also earned valuable MVP points. Ranked second in the ODI MVP 17 points behind Stuart Broad, he's fourth overall and rapidly closing on the medal positions.

Broad struck early with the ball in India's innings picking up the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar. Thereafter Virender Sehwag meted out some punishment but Broad earned enough points to extend his lead in the overall MVP to 19 points. Broad has scored 356 runs and taken 40 wickets from 22 games across all forms.

Jimmy Anderson is in third place in the overall MVP with 42 wickets across all forms.  Ian Bell is in fifth with a total of 815 runs, 199 of which came in the Lord's Test against South Africa.
