Consistent McGrath Leads Twenty20 MVP
Yorkshire' Anthony McGrath leads the Twenty20 MVP after a string of consistent performances with the bat. The former one-day international player has smashed 264 runs from five matches at a strike rate of 1.40 in the competition taking his run tally in all forms to 700. His strong Twenty20 showing has lifted him to eighth spot in the overall MVP.
Greg Smith is in second spot after notching 224 Twenty20 runs at a strike rate of 1.58 including a hundred off 62 balls against Yorkshire.
Andrew Hall, one of several Kolpak signings at the heart of the Steelbacks great start to their Twenty20 campaign, occupies third spot having scored 156 runs and taken 10 wickets. His stand out performance was against Worcestershire where he scored 66 and returned figures of 6-21
Surrey signed the dynamic Pakistan international Abdul Razzaq specifically for the Twenty20 Cup and despite missing the Brown Caps' first match he has not disappointed. He has already chalked up 126 runs at a strike rate of 1.70 and taken seven wickets, three of them coming against group leaders Middlesex, which sees him in fourth spot.
Another overseas Twenty20 specialist, Sussex's Dwayne Smith, is in fifth. The West Indian smashed 72 not out from just 27 balls against Hampshire at Hove and demonstrated he's no mug with the ball taking 3-14 versus Surrey. He has 137 runs and seven wickets.
Joe Denly, such an integral part of Kent's Twenty20 Cup victory last summer, has shown his liking for the short form again this term. In 2007 Denly scored 279 runs from 11 matches compared to 239 from just five this time round. He racked up four consecutive fifties from his first four matches elevating him to sixth in the MVP table
Graham Napier has been the standout performer for the Essex Eagles taking early wickets with the new ball and getting his team off to flyers with the bat having been promoted to number three for the last couple of matches. Napier has 78 runs at a strike rate of 1.86 and has taken six wickets. His economy rate has been exemplary never having gone for seven runs per over in any of his five matches. He occupies seventh.
Powerful South African all-rounder Tyrone Henderson is in eighth having scored 72 runs at a strike rate of 1.96 and taken 8 wickets whilst only conceding 6.31 runs per over.
Saj Mahmood has one of the best economy rates of any frontline bowler in Twenty20 conceding on average just 5.06 runs per over. He has taken nine wickets including 3-12 against Derbyshire and 2-13, which takes him to ninth.
Samit Patel, a familiar name in this year's overall and Friends Provident MVPs sneaks into the top ten despite only having played three matches. The batting all-rounder has scored 82 runs overall including 56 versus Durham and has taken six useful wickets.
