All Out Cricket Issue No.39
So, which players would make your list of the best of the best? Which current exponents would you be launching as mother earth's modern-day representatives in an ark of cricketing genius?
These questions have vexed us all month. It started as a pub conversation, but as the voices got louder and the opinions broader, we knew this was something far bigger than a chat over a couple of halves. Criteria was formulated, records sifted and star quality evaluated leaving us with ten categories from which to 'scientifically' deduce a top 50 of our greatest players in the world today.
We hope that the final results, published here over a magical 28 pages and accompanied with profiles, interviews, shorts, some great photography and even the odd joke, will stimulate as much debate and discussion as it did for us. There's also top Gray Nicolls bat on offer for the sharpest response, so get scribbling, people...
In this issue we bring you cricket's top ten acts of skulduggery, an audience with Ryan Sidebottom and his cat, a trip down the ages with John Crawley, an extract from Ian Botham's new hardback, and a Q&A with Clive Hubert Lloyd, cricketing royalty and the new manager of West Indies.
And elsewhere, AOC editor, Andy Afford, a New Zealand junkie, gives you the lowdown on how to tour the country and take in a bit of cricket, Surrey's Jon Batty reveals his icon. Graeme Swann pokes fun at his new England team-mates, new AOC columnist, Chris Adams, writes definitively on Peter Moores, and Phil Mustard explains exactly why "pizza is a meal in one go". And of course, a load of other stuff that is simply too great to mention...
... And for those of you off to New Zealand next spring we've teamed up with our friends at Budget Car Rental to provide you with an exclusive offer. Just visit www.budget.co.uk/gopca quoting G012500 or simply say "All Out Cricket" at the Budget counter in New Zealand! Happy traveling.
