AOC Issue No.37
What a finish!
Never before, in the 107-year history of the County Championship, has the old blighter enjoyed such a dramatic conclusion. We were all glued to events at the Oval, where Dominic Cork was making a desperate bid for Red Rose immortality, as the destination of this tarnished, yet coveted, trophy was still being fought for with 25 balls left of the last session of the last day of the last match. No one could recall anything like it; the following morning, no one in Sussex could recall anything at all.
Now we bring you the definitive story: the highs, lows and meaty blows from what was a wet and thrilling campaign. And for our centrepiece we caught up with Mr Ottis Gibson, the real star of the year. We got his thoughts after a truly freakish season for the Durham man.
Elsewhere we celebrate the stellar performances, suppress a giggle at the cock-ups, dish out AOC's alternative awards, and identify the ten breakthrough county players of 2007. And in amongst all this there's a timeline of the uneven but at times fascinating international season, an appreciation of Michael Holding, a bit of poker, a shot of Cockspur, Swanny's England diary, and a look back at the Twenty20 bash. Oh, and a boatload of other stuff. The story of 2007, right here. Now dig in...
