PCA Masters V Rensberg
PCA Masters enjoyed mixed success at the annual Rensberg Shepherds cricket day at Hightown CC on Thurs 3rd Aug. Playing two Twenty20 matches against a team consisting mainly of Hightown players together with a couple of RS employees, the Masters had to settle for a diplomatic share of the spoils – having won the first match, they were roundly beaten in the second.
The Hightown wicket will never be considered as a batting paradise as its dry, crumbly surface makes strokeplay rather haphazard. Chasing PCA Masters 1st innings total of 157 with Sherwin Campbell smashing a buccaneering 84, Hightown were never in the hunt reaching 126 from their 20 overs, leaving Masters with a comfortable victory.
The tables were turned in the second match with Hightown batting first and scoring 155 runs. It should have been a reachable target but the Masters never recovered from a poor start to their run chase, finally being dismissed for 95 to give Hightown a win by 60 runs - their first victory in three years.
The day was a huge success: beautiful, bright sunshine on the south Lancashire coast; Rensberg lavishing wonderful hospitality on over 300 guests with refreshments on tap throughout the day; a calypso steelband beating tunes; junior cricketers parading their talents.
It was a delightful day for which thanks must go to Hightown CC, Rensberg Shepherd, and a particular mention to Mark Appleton who kept the barstaff busy and even got a boundary off Devon Malcolm before losing his middle stump.
The PCA Masters Team Included..... Sherwin Campbell, Neil Smith, Graham Lloyd, Phil Simmons, Roland Butcher, Warren Hegg, Devon Malcolm, Paul Jarvis, Peter Martin, Peter Such, Steve Marsh, Gladstone Small
